Lent 2022

ASH WEDNESDAY begins our Lenten Season  Lent is the 40 day period of fasting, penitence, simplicity, and sorrow, leading up to the feast of Easter, recalling Jesus’ 40-day fast in the wilderness. Lent takes place from Wednesday, March 2, to Thursday, April 14, 2022,

These Lent prayers reflect the themes of fasting, penitence, and sorrow.

Father in Heaven,
the light of your truth bestows sight
to the darkness of sinful eyes.
May this season of repentance
bring us the blessing of Your forgiveness
and the gift of Your light.
Grant this through Christ our Lord.

Father in Heaven,
Protect us in our struggle against evil.
As we begin the discipline of Lent,
make this season holy by our self-denial.
Grant this through our Lord Jesus Christ
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit
one God, for ever and ever.

Almighty and everlasting God,
you hate nothing you have made
and forgive the sins of all who are penitent:
Create and make in us new and contrite hearts,
that we, worthily lamenting our sins
and acknowledging our wretchedness,
may obtain of you, the God of all mercy,
perfect remission and forgiveness;
through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns
with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
