OPERATION BACKPACK 7-11 -> 7-31
OPERATION BACKPACK
July 11th through July 31st
One of the most devastating consequences of homelessness is the impact it can have on a child’s education. Living in a shelter is a great hardship for school aged children.
Operation Backpack allows children in shelters to begin the school year with all the school supplies needed.
As RCHP has done for several years now, we will collect backpacks filled with *school supplies for 1st – 4th grade school children. We will collect backpacks and school supplies to fill backpacks from July 11th through July 31st.
If you cannot buy all the supplies needed to fill one backpack, you can buy a few of the items needed.
If you fill a backpack but are missing a few items, you must indicate the missing items on form that will be available in church and placed it in the backpack.
If you cannot go shopping, you can give a monetary donation in a check written to the Reformed Church of Huguenot Park and Phyllis DeLisio will coordinate the purchase of missing supplies to complete a full backpack.
The success of Operation Backpack relies 100% on support from the community. Last year, thanks to the generosity of thousands of people, every student living in a homeless or domestic violence shelter received a new, full, grade-specific backpack. It is anticipated that approximately 20,000 backpacks are needed this year.
If you have questions please call Phyllis at 718-351-7027.
